Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments in adults are evaluations conducted by PhD-level neuropsychologists and psychologists to evaluate the presence, severity, and impact of ADHD symptoms. The aim of these assessments is not only to provide a diagnosis (where appropriate), but also to help individuals better understand their strengths or challenges, and offer personalized recommendations for support and intervention.

The Snapshot: An Interview-Based ADHD Evaluation.

A comprehensive neuropsychological assessment is often not required to receive a diagnosis of ADHD in adults. At a reduced cost, this evaluation involves a thorough clinical interview with one of our skilled practitioners, focusing on symptoms, difficulties, and general wellbeing. Following this, the practitioner provides a feedback session to explain the findings and discuss recommendations.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessment for ADHD

Should you wish to receive more information about your cognitive profile, you may opt to receive a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment for ADHD with a neuropsychologist. This evaluation consists of a clinical interview, approximately two testing sessions aimed at establishing a comprehensive cognitive profile, and completion of questionnaires. Following this, the neuropsychologist produces a written and detailed report, and invites you to a feedback session to explain the findings and discuss recommendations. This type of assessment would provide you with a deeper understanding of your cognitive functioning, as well as personalized recommendations based on your cognitive strengths and challenges to help you in your home, school, and/or work environment.

Autism Assessments

Autism assessments in adults are evaluations conducted by a neuropsychologist to determine the presence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in individuals who may not have been diagnosed earlier in life or who are seeking clarification about their neurodevelopmental status. These entail a combination of both structured measures and qualitative observations to evoke differences in thinking and behavioural patterns, communication styles, and social and emotional skills consistent with a diagnosis of ASD. The goal of these assessments is to provide individuals with a clear understanding of their neurodevelopmental profile, identify any challenges or strengths they may have, and offer recommendations for support, intervention, and accommodations tailored to their specific needs.

In adults, neuropsychological assessments focus on an individual’s cognitive abilities (e.g., attention, memory, language, perceptual skills, motor abilities), as well as their academic and occupational functioning. Through this comprehensive evaluation process, a neuropsychologist helps clients better understand their cognitive profile, and how it may relate to the specific challenges they experience in daily life. The main goals of a neuropsychological assessment typically involve offering a diagnosis, devising a treatment plan, and providing personalized recommendations for educational and return-to-work practices.

The reasons for seeking a neuropsychological assessment vary, but typically involve some degree of cognitive difficulties that interfere with academic/work performance, daily activities, and overall quality of life. Below are some situations in which a neuropsychological evaluation may be helpful:
