Art and Play-Based Therapies
Art and play-based therapies are therapeutic approaches that use creative activities to help individuals express thoughts, emotions, and experiences. These methods can be effective with children, particularly those who are non-verbal or have difficulty accessing their feelings and thoughts using language, and they can also benefit adolescents and adults.
In art-based therapy, individuals engage in drawing, painting, sculpting, or other creative forms to explore their inner world, gain insights, and process emotions. It focuses on the process allowing for self-expression and personal growth.
Play-based therapy uses toys, games, storytelling, and imaginative play as tools for communication and problem-solving. It creates a safe, non-threatening environment where children can explore complex emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.
Both approaches foster self-discovery, emotional regulation, and improved interpersonal skills, making them valuable tools in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioural challenges.
