Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is based on the idea that emotions are adaptive and serve as important sources of information about the self and the world. The aim of EFT is to help you better understand and manage your emotions, particularly those that are causing difficulties in your relationships and daily life.
More specifically, EFT helps you to better understand the meaning and function of your emotions, to identify and express your emotions, rather than avoid or suppress them, and to develop new emotional experiences and responses that are more adaptive and helpful. This can include learning new emotional regulation skills, improving emotional communication with others, and developing a more compassionate relationship with oneself.
