Frequently Asked Questions

A physician’s referral is not necessary to schedule an appointment at Elevate Psychotherapy and Wellness Clinic. However, when booking the initial appointment, you may be asked your purpose for consulting the clinic. The reason for this is that we want to ensure the best match between you and your practitioner, and also that the professional has expertise in the area for which you are seeking services.

Many insurance plans cover psychological services that are provided by a psychologist licensed with the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ), or provided by a therapist that is supervised by a psychologist licensed with the OPQ. All of the professionals providing therapy at our clinic are licensed with the OPQ or supervised by a psychologist who is. We provide receipts at the end of each session, which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of services. To determine what your specific insurance policy covers, please contact your insurance company directly.

At Elevate Psychotherapy and Wellness Clinic, all our psychologists have completed a doctoral degree (PhD) in Psychology and are licensed with the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (OPQ). Professionals that possess this license are deemed to have fulfilled the OPQ’s standards for clinical education, training, and supervision, which are regarded as essential qualifications for providing psychotherapy treatment.

The clinic also has student therapists who offer psychotherapy services at a reduced hourly rate. These PhD Candidates are in the process of completing their doctoral studies in Psychology at a university in Montreal, and are supervised by experienced licensed psychologists at the clinic. Senior PhD Candidates are further along in their doctoral studies than other PhD Candidates, having completed all the necessary coursework and clinical training required by their program. They are in the process of completing the final step before graduating and obtaining their degree, which is to defend their research dissertation.

The goal of the first session is for you and your therapist to get to know each other and ensure that your therapist is a suitable match for you. In order to better understand you, your therapist will ask you a bit about your life, your reasons for consulting, and your objectives for therapy. Then, you and your therapist will collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan to address your therapy-related needs and objectives, and discuss the appropriate evidence-based therapeutic approach or combination of approaches that will be undertaken to do this.

Individual therapy sessions are generally 50 minutes long. Group therapy sessions can range from 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

The information that you share with your psychologist is confidential. It cannot be disclosed without your consent except in situations where there are safety concerns and/or legal requirements to help protect someone. In these situations, your psychologist is obligated to report the information to the appropriate authority or persons in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. You and your psychologist will review the specific limits of confidentiality during your first session.

Psychologists must maintain documentation of their interactions with clients. These records usually contain information about the client’s history, their presenting problem or issues, as well as information about what was covered and worked on in sessions. At Elevate Psychotherapy and Wellness Clinic, your record is kept in a secure location and only your psychologist has access to your personal information.
