Narrative Exposure Therapy
The aim of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) is to help you process your traumatic experiences in an environment that is safe and supportive, and to integrate them into your life story in a way that is less distressing and more manageable.
To begin, you will create a chronological and detailed account of your traumatic experiences; this will be recorded in writing and used as a tool for processing and integrating the traumatic memories. Following this, you will revisit and retell your story; this can help to reduce the emotional intensity of the traumatic memories.
By engaging in this process, you may gain a greater sense of control over your memories and emotions, and may develop a more coherent and positive sense of self. Ultimately, this can help you to move beyond your traumatic past and find new ways of coping and living your life.
