IAIM Infant Massage Program
Infant massage is a long-standing parenting practice that uses nurturing touch to support connection, regulation, and healthy development from the very beginning of life. Through gentle, intentional touch, parents and caregivers can build a loving connection with their baby, strengthening attachment and fostering a sense of safety as baby grows.
Extensive research from the U.S. and Europe supports the benefits of infant massage. Babies who receive regular massage often relax more easily, sleep more soundly, and develop stronger self-regulation skills. Infant massage supports physical, emotional, and neurological development while creating meaningful moments of connection between parent and baby.
Group Format
Infant massage is offered in a small, supportive group format consisting of five parent-and-baby sessions, each lasting approx. 1.5 hours. Sessions combine guided instruction in infant massage with discussion, reflection, and opportunities for connection with other parents. Caregivers are provided with readings and simple exercises to practice at home between sessions, supporting confidence and continuity of learning. Topics covered throughout the program include infant behavioural states, cues, and newborn reflexes during massage; environmental considerations and the use of oils; relaxation strategies for parents; crying and regulation; IAIM massage strokes; routines to support gas and colic; and adaptations for older infants or children. Weekly discussions also create space to explore broader topics related to parenting, emotional well-being, and mental health during the postpartum period.Benefits for Babies and Children
